13 August 2019, Jakarta, Indonesia: Shopkeeper Udin Slamet (45) has lived in Muara Baru for 40 years and tells of having to flee to friends second story homes to escape the ocean.The protective seawall barrier keeping the ocean at bay at Muara Baru, North Jakarta was built by Governor (now President) Joko Widodo  constructed to prevent further encroachment by the ocean into the settlements in North Jakarta which is sinking at a rate faster than anywhere else in the world. Residents speak of the flooding  that would drive them to higher ground washing away all in its path. Residents now say the land is dry and usable but it is an ongoing crisis for Indonesia.
