20 May 2019,Kwartu village East Java, Indonesia: Local rice farmer Kusen who has recently given up farming to become a plastic rag picker, tends a fire at a plastic rubbish dump in Kwartu village East Java outside Surabaya, Indonesia. Millions of tonnes of recyclable plastic trash from Australia and Europe is dumped for rag pickers to separate and sort. The plastics are used to fuel fires at local tofu factories among other industries. Australia is illegally sending non recyclable trash hidden within this lode and the Indonesian Government is cracking down on the practice and preparing to refuse to take Australia's rubbish that is creating enviromental and health issues locally.
