04 September 2011, Trivandrum, Kerala, INDIA: A mural that is a copy of the idol of Lord Vishnu in the Sree Padmnabha Swami temple hangs in a mall in Trivandrum, India. The discovery of a horde of gold and gemstone offerings, collected over hundreds of years and worth billions of dollars, has created deep rifts in the local community. It has resulted in protracted Supreme Court proceedings which are yet to be resolved between local devotees, Hindu fundamentalists, the Kerala Government and the Royal family. The money to be made from the horde could result in better health care, education and infrastucture if the legal wrangling can be solved.Picture Graham Crouch / Süddeutsche Zeitung
