Artist Sheenkai Alam Stanikzai shows off her crayon stained hands. A finalist in the Kabul Contemporary Art Prize she was taking part in a workshop in the lead up to the final winner being aanounced. Her photography and enthusiasm eventually proved a decisive factor in her victory. Street life in the Afghan capital of Kabul is full of interesting faces whose experience is often etched deep into the eyes. The exception being the women , whose eyes a casual observer rarely sees. Despite the ongoing struggle between radical Islamists and the moderate sections of Afghan society - and of course the coalition forces- the hospitality and vibrance of the locals is exhuberant. It has been centuries of struggle for these people and nothing, it seems , can break their spirit.
