18 May 2012, Kabul Afghanistan: Dr Ahmad Nasir Sarmast ,(left) and teacher James Herzog (USA) listens to orphan students Khalida Safai (left,10) and Meenaa Zinat (9) during a trumpet lesson. Dr Sarmast founded the Afghanistan National Institute of Music in Kabul that takes in students from all walks of Afghan life to educate them in musical studies. The World Bank is supporting this legacy by providing funding for a new concert hall and to gather additional land to expand the premises. Many of the students are orphans who would otherwise have no opportunity or access to the knowledge or instruments that the Institute has gathered. Up to half a dozen ex-patriate music teachers run classes in music that ranges from traditional Afghan and classical music to modern rock. Picture by Graham Crouch/World Bank
